About The Position

Provides a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children attending the Learn and Play Therapeutic Center (aged 3-5) have the opportunity to develop cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Provides weekly lesson plans by which classes are conducted using social emotional assigned curriculum resources. Provide feedback to treatment care team to help the children in the program. Ensure child care regulations are adhered to.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to: stand, walk, and use hands to handle, feel, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, taste, and smell. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move, up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Understanding and knowledge of behavioral modification programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
  • Ability to provide supportive and caring environment for children.
  • Bachelor’s degree and valid Kansas teaching certificate with an early childhood endorsement or/
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education and a valid Kansas teaching certificate or/
  • Bachelor’s degree and a valid Kansas teaching license with an early childhood handicapped endorsement.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • KBI Criminal Record Check and Signed Declaration Form
  • 1 year working experience with children.
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in child development or its equivalent.
  • Current Kansas Teacher Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of early childhood education programs, techniques, development and practice.
  • Ability to evaluate and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth and kindergarten readiness.
  • Knowledge of how to work with children in a crisis situation and how to deescalate the situation.

Responsibilities

  • Greets children and parents/guardians in a professional and enthusiastic manner each day.
  • Facilitate early learning in the domains, subdomains, goals, developmental progressions and indicators necessary per Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) standards.
  • Provide a safe and learning environment.
  • Use developmentally appropriate teaching techniques.
  • Develop effective and appropriate classroom management techniques.
  • Support all children’s learning though individualization techniques.
  • Develop lesson plans each week.
  • Writes and complies individual assessments of each child’s development; completes needed behavioral reports, and related reports.
  • Follow the Kansas Laws and Regulations for Licensing Preschools and Child Care Centers.
  • Participate in professional growth plans and attend training as required for Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) and for KDHE.
  • Interacts with parents; maintains open and cooperative communication with parents and families, encouraging their involvement in the program and supporting the child’s family relationships.
  • May lead, guide, and train center staff as well as work together with the behavioral health team to support the behavioral health needs of the children in the center.
