About The Position

The Certified Teacher is an exempt key member of an administrative team that works together to support the mission and values of the Child Development Center programs. The Certified Teacher reports to the Director of Child Development Centers and works closely with the Classroom Educators to ensure all functions of this job description are fulfilled. The Certified Teacher is responsible for carrying out the educational program of the Centers. The primary responsibilities of the Certified Teacher are to provide care to the children; plan and implement classroom curriculum; set up a daily schedule of classroom activities that are developmentally appropriate and that take into consideration individual children’s needs; collect and maintain files on each child with medical, financial and CACFP, as well as curriculum information; and provide direction to the Classroom Educators in assigned areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with teaching certification.
  • Major in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Endorsement.
  • A Criminal Background and Abuse check, as well as an up to date physical, including a TB test is required.
  • A fingerprint check is also required for all Child Development Center positions.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driving record sufficient to qualify for agency automobile coverage.
  • Maintain current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Teaching Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree with teaching certification.
  • Major in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Endorsement with two years teaching experience in writing curriculum for same.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 10 hours of direct teaching and 10 hours of planning time per 20 students totaling 20 hours per week.
  • Follow a combination of Creative Curriculum and High Scope Curriculum, and Child Observation Record Assessment Tool.
  • Participate in 15 hours of professional development approved by the Director of Child Development Center.
  • Spend four (4) half days observing another Preschool Initiative classroom.
  • Provide each family with two (2) conferences.
  • Provide at least one (1) home visit during the school year to each family.
  • Complete COR assessment as necessary.
  • Participate in all staff development required by the State.
  • Participate in quarterly trainings with Preschool Initiative Administration.
  • Provide opportunities for the families to participate in a minimum of 15 hours of family involvement activities to include two family/community events.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care and supervision of the children in the room throughout the day.
  • Develop and implement classroom activities and field trips outside the classroom and the supervision of such. This includes planning with appropriate staff and assigning duties, informing of schedule, and assisting with all of these.
  • Does group teaching and works individually with the children.
  • Provides staff supervision, including preparing and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Monitors program areas to ensure compliance with all standards and quality initiatives.
  • Reports any deviation of these immediately to the program Director and takes steps to correct any area necessary.
  • Supervises children on walks, field trips, etc. and watches them in the bathroom in accordance with accreditation regulations.
  • Observe children each morning for health inspection.
  • Takes turns watching children with Classroom Educators during naptime or uses time to prepare lesson plans, activities, or handwork and to complete necessary records.
  • Administers approved medication to the children with signed parental consent if medical management approved.
  • Observes children and records anecdotal information.
  • Relates any pertinent information to the Director of Child Development Center concerning children.
  • Relates any pertinent information to the Director of Child Development Center concerning staff.
  • Work in coordination with the Director of Child Development Center to hire, train, mentor and supervise all classroom staff.
  • Informs parents of any important matters concerning their children (following discussion with the Director of Child Development Center).
  • Responds promptly and appropriately to parent concerns, involving teachers, administrators, families or external support personnel as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for the care and maintenance of the classroom, equipment, and materials and makes sure everything is left in proper order at the end of the day, doors and windows locked, room cleaned, etc.
  • Directs the handling of the following duties: Room set up and ready for children. Rest periods for children. Cleaning of facilities. Food preparation and clean up.
  • Keeps daily attendance and food record.
  • Update food, eligibility, and sign-in sheets.
  • Ensures all children are in database and accepts payments.
  • Ensures assessments of children are completed.
  • Inventories classroom equipment and materials; completes and prepares monthly supply list.
  • Holds monthly fire drills and tornado drills and keeps a record of such dates.
  • Assists with Center family activities.
  • Attends (2) monthly staff meetings each month.
  • May present pertinent information during meetings.
  • Meets weekly with Classroom Educators and/or Director of Child Development Center to plan activities, field trips, and to discuss curriculum.
  • Meets regularly with Director of Child Development Center to discuss standards, quality initiatives, staff issues or concerns, and general supervisory matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.
