About The Position

A Preschool Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment that promotes early childhood education for children ages 2 to 5. This role involves planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities that focus on cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. Preschool Teachers work to foster a love of learning while ensuring that children are prepared for the transition to kindergarten.

Requirements

A degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field is typically required (associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred).
Previous experience working with preschool-age children in a daycare, preschool, or educational setting is preferred.
First Aid and CPR certification, and any state-specific teaching certifications or licenses may be required.
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate educational practices.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
Patience, creativity, and adaptability in working with young children.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with educational standards and supports early childhood learning.
Plan engaging, hands-on activities to promote literacy, numeracy, motor skills, and social-emotional development.
Use a variety of teaching methods such as play, music, art, and storytelling to engage children and encourage creativity.
Maintain a positive, organized, and structured classroom environment that fosters a sense of security and encourages exploration.
Set clear expectations for behavior, and provide consistent guidance to help children develop social skills, problem-solving, and cooperation.
Utilize conscience discipline practices.
Manage classroom routines such as arrival, meals, rest time, and transitions effectively.
Observe and assess children’s developmental progress, identifying any areas of concern or special needs.
Provide positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior and academic progress.
Maintain open communication with parents or guardians about their child’s progress, challenges, and milestones.
Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide reports on children’s development, achievements, and needs.
Offer suggestions to parents on ways to reinforce learning at home.
Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, both in the classroom and during outdoor activities.
Adhere to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Assist with meals, hygiene routines, and other personal care needs as required.
Work closely with other teachers and staff to create a cohesive learning environment.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on early childhood education best practices.
Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops as required.
