About The Position

Thompson Child Development Center (TCDC) is seeking a Preschool Teacher Assistant to provide high-quality daily care to children. This role involves implementing daily lesson plans, documenting child progress, maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of children. The assistant will work collaboratively with a lead teacher under the supervision of the director, fostering positive relationships with staff, families, and support providers. A key aspect of this role is understanding and respecting the cultural diversity of children and team members to better serve families. The position requires performing physical tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have at least six SCH of post-high school coursework in Early Childhood Education.
  • 2 years of early childhood teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations governed by DCDEE and Mecklenburg County Health Department standards.
  • Must pass a drug screening test.
  • An extensive background check is required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement daily lesson plans and document the child's progress.
  • Maintain the total quality of the classroom environment, focusing on cleanliness, order, state of repair, and the replenishment of supplies.
  • Provide direct service and supervision to children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Establish appropriate and helpful relationships with other staff, mentors, family members, and support service providers.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops, and other career development and professional activities.
  • Understand the cultural diversity of children and team members to better serve families.
  • Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, and moving items as required.
