About The Position

St. Vincent de Paul School is seeking a Preschool Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 School Year. This role involves supporting the lead teacher in creating and implementing lesson plans, overseeing children's activities, and providing direct care and support to young students. The assistant will help prepare classroom materials, supervise children during various activities like rest time and lunch, and may assist with aftercare. A key aspect of the role is respecting and honoring the individual needs, cultural backgrounds, and learning styles of each child, treating them with dignity and respect. The position also includes shared housekeeping responsibilities and participation in professional development. This is a non-exempt position with full-time or part-time options available.

Requirements

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
  • Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
  • Must have completed 12 ECE units or completed a minimum of 6 ECE units and enrolled in 6 ECE units (Copy of transcripts provided)
  • Previous experience in a licensed preschool or early development center (preferred)
  • Live Scan Fingerprint and CMG Background Clearance
  • Cleared TB test to work in a Licensed Child Care Facility
  • Proof of MMR and D-TAP vaccines
  • Passion to work with young children and desire to grow as an educator
  • Works well with others
  • Has a positive attitude and enthusiasm

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Teacher to create and deliver lesson plans, and assist with school curriculum
  • Oversees outdoor activities ensuring a safe environment for the children at all times
  • Assist the teacher with rest time set up, take down and supervision
  • Prepare materials and supplies for daily classroom activities and set up of equipment
  • Cover for Teacher lunches and breaks
  • Provides children with support and care during lunchtime and rest time
  • Aftercare coverage if needed
  • Respecting and honoring the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, special needs, talents, and individual style and pace of learning
  • Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background
  • Able to sit on the floor, kneel or crouch down to assist children’s needs
  • Treating children with dignity and respect
  • Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff after the children have either departed or are under the supervision of another teacher
  • Participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth
  • Other duties as assigned
