Job SummaryImmaculate Conception Catholic School, Union is seeking a Preschool Substitute Teacher to provide a nurturing, safe, and developmentally supportive learning environment for children ages 3–5 when the regular classroom teacher is absent. This role involves following established lesson plans, supporting early childhood growth, maintaining classroom routines, and ensuring the well‑being of each child.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; coursework or a degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred.
  • A substitute teaching permit may be required depending on local regulations.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Prior experience working with preschool‑aged children in a childcare, classroom, or daycare setting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated patience, warmth, and a nurturing approach to working with young children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow routines, maintain structure, and adapt to the needs of an active early childhood classroom.
  • Basic understanding of child development and age‑appropriate instructional strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Follow lesson plans and daily routines provided by the preschool teacher or school staff.
  • Use age‑appropriate, play‑based activities to support early literacy, numeracy, motor skills, social development, and independence.
  • Encourage creativity and exploration through storytelling, singing, hands‑on activities, centers, and guided play.
  • Adapt activities to meet the developmental needs and learning styles of individual children.
  • Maintain a warm, respectful, and structured classroom environment that fosters emotional, social, and behavioral growth.
  • Establish and reinforce consistent routines, including transitions, cleanup, and quiet time.
  • Use positive behavior‑guidance strategies to support appropriate behavior and gently redirect misbehavior.
  • Promote cooperation, participation, and positive peer interactions.
  • Provide encouragement, emotional support, and individual attention as needed.
