About The Position

Provide appropriate early childhood educational services to children ages 3-5 who are eligible for IDEA Part B services (special education). A change in assignment and/or location may occur based on building needs and variances in school enrollment.

Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Special Education
  • Competency and experience providing early intervention services for children with developmental delays
  • Possess the physical agility to sit, drive, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, restrain, and lift up to 40 pounds without assistance and 70 pounds with assistance

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality educational programming for eligible children ages 3-5 years
  • Participate in staff meetings as requested
  • Attend community/contractor meetings as requested
  • Assist administration, as requested, with agency documentation and procedural requirements
  • Comply with district policies and procedures and make recommendations when necessary for changes to policy and/or procedures
  • Directly participate in assessment, referral, evaluation, and team planning on behalf of prospective students with special program plans
  • Develop and implement appropriate IEPs consistent with WAC 392-172A
  • Meet federal and state timeline requirements for referral, evaluation and IEP formulation and implementation
  • Work with classroom teachers and therapists to develop accommodations required by children receiving special services
  • Provide direction for the development of behavior management plans as needed
  • Periodically assess each child’s developmental progress
  • Participate in parent meetings as required and requested
  • Provide coordination of MDT/IEP meetings on behalf of families and the district
  • Facilitate transition planning and implementation for children from Part C to Part B services and from preschool to kindergarten
  • Connect families to resources
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA and HIPPA laws regarding student educational and health information
  • Collaborate with district staff to organize, conduct and follow up on Child Find requirements per WAC and district policy
  • Support collection of classroom data necessary to conduct ongoing program planning and progress tracking
  • Complete progress reports according to program and contractual guidelines
  • Maintain individual children’s files according to state and federal requirements and district policy and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with current district preschool contractor
  • Respond in a timely manner to parent concerns and/or complaints making service modifications where necessary
  • Identify areas for improvement and promote innovative strategies for program improvement in service delivery
  • Facilitate communication between parents, school district personnel and preschool contractor
  • Gather, formulate and compile Child Outcomes Summary Form information for reporting to OSPI
  • Be aware of student participation in non-district childcare and preschool environments
  • Collaborate, as needed, with non-district childcare and preschool providers to provide assistance with suggested accommodations and modifications based on the needs of individual children
  • Ability and willingness to change diapers and work on potty training with preschoolers
  • Ability and sensitivity to work with children with special health care needs
  • Work collaboratively with early childhood program staff
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work

  • Communicate clearly, orally and in writing
