About The Position

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two caring and motivated Paraprofessionals to work with blind/low-vision preschool students under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision. These part-time positions are located in Springville and are for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday, 30 hours per week. The role involves preparing teaching materials, tutoring individual students, communicating student progress, assisting with behavior interventions, and supporting routine daily activities. The position also requires maintaining accurate records and preparing instructional materials.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
  • Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
  • Perform duties related to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
  • Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
  • Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom (may include diapering), etc.
  • Provides support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students.
  • Maintains accurate records and logs.
  • Designs and/or prepares training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices.
