About The Position

The Pre-School Lead Teacher is responsible for providing development, implementation & supervision of the curriculum in the classroom. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • CDA credential and 1 year teaching experience or High school diploma and 3 years of teaching experience and proof of DHR approved continuing education classes
  • Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of social, emotional cognitive and developmental needs for young children
  • Working knowledge of State Child Care programming requirements for licensing
  • Ability to foster positive staff, parent and child relations
  • Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines
  • CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment
  • Fire Safety and DHR Core Child Care classes required within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Caring as primary provider for a group of children.
  • Oversee classroom by planning daily activities and coordinating work with assistant teachers.
  • Ensuring the care, safety, and well being of all children in the group.
  • Planning and implementing a program geared to preschool children; including daily theme oriented lesson plans.
  • Setting up the physical environment to meet the needs of preschool children.
  • Demonstrating, verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices.
  • Taking the place of the director, when asked, in his or her absence and dealing with any special situations that may arise.
  • Participating in staff meetings and ongoing training as deemed necessary
  • Providing information to parents regarding their children and discussing general child development issues.
  • Responsible for addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of abuse, and reacting properly when they occur.
  • Scheduling coverage for room on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service.
  • Assist in the annual campaign fundraising program for the YMCA.
  • Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children.
  • This organization has zero tolerance for abuse and will not tolerate the mistreatment or abuse of consumers in its programs. Any mistreatment or abuse by an employee or volunteer will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or volunteer service and cooperation with law enforcement. This organization takes every allegation of abuse or misconduct seriously and will fully cooperate with the authorities to investigate all cases of alleged abuse or misconduct. Employees and volunteers shall cooperate with any external investigation by outside authorities or internal investigation conducted by the organization or persons given investigative authority by the organization. An employee or volunteer’s failure to cooperate with an investigation will result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or dismissal from the organization.
