About The Position

The Preschool Instructional Aide will assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. This role involves working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, assisting the teacher in developing strategies for student needs, and supervising students during various activities. The aide will also be responsible for distributing materials, guiding independent study, and performing clerical tasks. Maintaining confidentiality and ethical behavior is crucial, similar to licensed teachers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A transcript showing a minimum of sixty (60) completed college credits OR a passing ParaPro Assessment score dated within the past 10 years must be submitted with the application.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students.
  • Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must obtain IVP fingerprint clearance within 10 days of start date.
  • Must obtain TB test within 10 days of start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch periods and field trips.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
  • Performs clerical tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.
