About The Position

The Preschool Early Intervention Paraprofessional will assist children in a classroom setting, supporting their educational and developmental needs. This role involves direct interaction with students, preparation of instructional materials, and collaboration with teachers and therapists to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavioral plans. The position requires adherence to health and safety guidelines, maintaining accurate records, and providing support during instructional activities and emergencies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent number of college credits (60) or a BSE Credential of Competency obtained within 90-days of employment.
  • Ability to work as part of the educational team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Ability to prioritize identified needs of students by following directives of classroom teachers, staff and peers, as well as the goals of the IEP.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR clearances are required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).
  • School Personnel Health Record and TB Test (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years’ experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred.
  • Training in crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid preferred.
  • Experience working with preschool age children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists children to and from the bus at arrival and departure times.
  • Assists students in the bathroom, including diapering, toilet training, and handwashing.
  • Assists with lifting non-ambulatory students and monitoring child with outerwear removal/putting on and feeding.
  • Prepares and operates instructional equipment and materials (audio/visual, iPad, Smartboard, copies, lamination, computer documents, visual aids, artwork).
  • Takes measures to assist a child in an emergency and notifies supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and follows program health guidelines in the classroom and diaper changing areas.
  • Updates attendance records and data collection.
  • Handles and maintains confidentiality as it pertains to special education.
  • Completes ACCESS billing in a timely manner if required.
  • Assists students in the use of teaching devices, assistive technology, and computers.
  • Communicates effectively with children, teachers, therapists, and supervisors.
  • Interacts and assists in the supervision of students during work-instructed assignments, play activities, and emergency drills.
  • Performs reinforcement instructional services as delegated by the PA Certified Professional.
  • Follows and implements IEPs (including behavioral intervention plans) and reinforces the behavioral management system.
  • Assists the teacher with students who may need physical intervention using accepted procedures.
  • Attends required training (NCI, CPR, First Aid, Confidentiality, Universal Precautions, various diagnoses).
  • Travels between assignments as needed.
  • Performs other educationally related duties assigned.
