About The Position

We are seeking a Part-Time Preschool Director to plan, organize, and supervise our Discovery Learning Center (DLC) programs and Early Childhood Summer Camps (So Big and Sun & Fun). This is an IMRF-qualified position, with hours monitored and capped under 1,500 per year. The role is part-time, averaging just under 30 hours per week, typically 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

  • Two or more years of early childhood work experience
  • Appropriate director certification to maintain IDEC preschool certification
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., occasionally lift children, and be on your feet for long periods
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • 4-year college degree in an education-related subject

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview and recommend teaching and clerical staff who meet state licensing requirements.
  • Directly supervise up to 25 part-time teachers and camp counselors, plus program volunteers.
  • Plan and conduct monthly staff meetings and observe/evaluate classroom and camp performance regularly.
  • Send teachers to in-service trainings and conferences to strengthen early childhood teaching skills.
  • Prepare payroll for DLC and camp staff and implement programs within approved budget guidelines.
  • Take inventory and coordinate with the Early Childhood Supervisor to order materials and equipment.
  • Write a monthly parent newsletter and plan special events (orientations, parent nights, open houses, buddy brunch, etc.).
  • Maintain records and materials for IDEC certification of DLC programs.
  • Communicate with parents in person and by phone about the program, child progress and enrollment.
  • Maintain strong relationships with public schools, social workers and NSSRA.
  • Divide children into classes/groups and assign teachers and counselors.
  • Provide emergency first aid and prepare reports as requested.
