About The Position

In conjunction with the Preschool Administrative Team, the Preschool Coordinator directs the planning, development, and execution of preschool programming. This role oversees daily operations of all preschool classrooms and wrap-around childcare, ensuring compliance with various state regulations including NYSED 4410, OCFS child care regulations, UPK requirements, and CACFP. The coordinator is responsible for supervising staff, conducting classroom observations, managing recruitment and retention, coordinating schedules, and maintaining documentation related to licensing and training. They also support emergency preparedness, curriculum implementation aligned with NYS Early Learning Standards, lesson planning, child assessments, and the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The role promotes inclusive practices and supports accreditation and quality improvement initiatives, providing leadership in curriculum and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, including or in addition to 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; one year teaching experience in a child care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; one year supervising staff in a child care program.
  • OR Associate’s Degree with 2 years teaching experience and 2 years supervising staff.
  • OR Child Development Associate Credential with 2 years teaching experience and 2 years supervising staff.
  • Those with an Associate’s or CDA will be required to have a plan of study to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Requirements are based on OCFS Site Director Requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of all preschool classrooms and wrap around childcare
  • Maintain compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) 4410 regulations, Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) child care regulations, Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) requirements and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Supervise teachers, teachers’ aides and administrative support specialists
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and mentoring
  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, orientation and retention of staff
  • Coordinate staff schedules and classroom coverage
  • Maintain documentation of licensing visits, audits and monitoring
  • Ensure required staff training and certifications remain current
  • Support emergency preparedness, evacuation drills and incident reporting
  • Support implementation of curriculum aligned with the NYS Early Learning Standards
  • Monitor lesson planning and child assessments
  • Ensure implementation of Individuated Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with the Special Education Coordinator and related service providers
  • Monitor enrollment and classroom capacity
