About The Position

The Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Preschool Assistant Teacher to join our Youth Programs team. This role supports the Playschool Lead Teacher in creating a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment for children ages two years old. The Preschool Assistant Teacher helps prepare classroom activities, supervises children throughout the day, and fosters a positive atmosphere that encourages learning, creativity, and confidence. This position plays an important role in supporting each child's development while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom. Many of our Assistant Teachers have grown into Lead Teacher roles, making this an excellent opportunity for those looking to build a career in early childhood education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to safely lift and carry children weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, members, and coworkers
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills
  • Sound judgment, patience, and professionalism while working with young children
  • CPR, First Aid, and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect certification, or the ability to obtain all required certifications within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an assistant teacher in a preschool or early childhood education setting

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher in caring for and supervising children ages two years old
  • Help prepare and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate classroom activities
  • Create a warm, safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, playtime, and transitions
  • Keep accurate attendance records and class rosters
  • Communicate observations regarding children's development, behavior, and individual needs with the Lead Teacher
  • Model positive behavior and utilize appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a secure environment for children
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents, members, and fellow team members
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and departmental meetings
  • Complete required continuing education, including a minimum of 16 hours annually through OAEYC or an approved equivalent program
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance
  • Follow all Club policies and Youth Programs procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
