About The Position

The Metro North YMCA is seeking professional and engaging teachers for our Early Education Child Development Program for the Fall of 2026. We are looking for new part-time Preschool or Toddler assistant teachers during the afterschool hours. This role is located at our Melrose YMCA.

Requirements

High School Diploma preferred
Ability to be flexible and think outside of the box
Ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
CPR and First Aid certified

Responsibilities

Keep the safety of children as a first priority, emphasizing personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, families, and other staff at all times.
Plan and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that fosters children’s development.
Provide differentiated instruction to meet the individual needs of children in the classroom.
Conduct child assessments and provide feedback and recommendations to parents and caregivers.
Lead by personal example, and help to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children, staff, and families. Be positive healthy role models.
Use positive and constructive methods of behavior management and ensure that all staff does the same.
Supervise children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and guide transitions smoothly.
Collaborate with the co-teacher in the design of the classroom space.
Ensure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day.
