About The Position

The Preschool Aide supports the Preschool Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and faith-filled learning environment for young children at St. Ambrose Catholic School. This position assists with classroom instruction, student supervision, daily routines, and age-appropriate activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development. The Preschool Aide works collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families to support the mission and values of Catholic education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children in a school, childcare, daycare, or early childhood setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to create positive relationships with young children and support their learning and growth.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated patience, flexibility, dependability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, and active engagement with young children throughout the day.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Successful completion of required background checks, Safe Environment training, and any Archdiocesan requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • associate degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Preschool Teacher with implementing daily lessons, activities, and classroom routines.
  • Supervise and engage children in developmentally appropriate educational, social, and recreational activities.
  • Support students with transitions, classroom procedures, and independent skill development.
  • Foster a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, organization, and maintenance of learning materials and supplies.
  • Monitor student behavior and encourage positive social interactions and emotional growth.
  • Support children with personal care needs, including handwashing, restroom routines, and other age-appropriate self-help skills as needed.
  • Assist with snack time, lunch, rest periods, and playground supervision.
  • Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of students at all times.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with teachers, staff, parents, and guardians.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school information.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
  • Support and uphold the mission, values, and teachings of St. Ambrose Catholic School and the Catholic Church.
