Preschool & After School Program Assistant
About The Position
This is a full-time float position within the Education Department. The employee will not be permanently assigned to either the Preschool or the Afterschool program but will move between the programs and the tasks associated with either role to provide coverage and assistance where needed. This position requires flexibility in hours and the ability to perform a variety of job duties within the Education Department programs. The role supports Lead Preschool Teachers and/or the After School Program Coordinator, and the Director of Education by helping to create a caring and safe environment for children, assisting in activities to improve overall care and quality of education, implementing a quality educational program, developing positive relationships with children and parents, observing and documenting children's progress, and implementing developmentally appropriate activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Child/Adult CPR and First Aid certification.
- Proficiency in Word Processing Software (Word).
- Proficiency in Electronic Mail Software (Outlook).
- Positive attitude.
- Ability to work well with children.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- An understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Must pass DCYF background check.
- Must submit record of all state of RI mandated vaccinations.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the implementation of Preschool and After School activities and encourages participation.
- Supports After School students in academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, and other areas.
- Actively engages in activities; manages cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
- Encourages self-help and good hygiene through behavior.
- Helps ensure smooth, daily transition from home to childcare center and from school to after school program.
- Provides feedback regarding students' behavior and abilities to Lead Preschool Teachers and/or the After School Program Coordinator.
- Follows all center policies and state regulations.
- Maintains personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
