About The Position

Reporting to the Pre-Press Manager, the Pre-Press Lead is responsible for directing the Mounters. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Pre-Press Manager regarding training, upgrades, and submitting input regarding evaluations and performance reviews. The Pre-Press Lead performs administrative duties as required and any other reports as needed. Must have knowledge of mounting and printing processes and techniques, and capable of troubleshooting problems. Constantly follows quality and production and makes the necessary decisions to maintain quality and to maximize production output rates efficiently. Works with management to coordinate routine maintenance during scheduled shutdowns and for routine repairs. Inspects and checks that the jobs are being mounted according to the specifications; takes corrective action to resolve mounting problems. Forecasts equipment usage and output on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience related to the manufacturing processes.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills are required.
  • Computer and mechanical background a plus.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and demands.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information to one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Accurately read a tape measure.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares jobs for production.
  • Verifies that all the information is included and accurate and complies with the production order.
  • Updates and prepares a mounting schedule that corresponds with production requirements on the printing presses.
  • Assure proper set-ups and quality checks. Constantly follows quality and production and makes the necessary decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality in an efficient time and manner.
  • Assists in training new employees on how to perform quality checks, job check offs and does follow-up on production to ensure product is being produced to specifications.
  • Assists mounters in making necessary adjustments on the equipment and oversees the set-up of all trouble orders. Capable of mounting plates, understands the established mounting processes.
  • Capable of troubleshooting a majority of problems in plate mounting and printing with a view of maximizing production and minimizing quality issues.
  • The Pre-Press Lead assists the Pre-Press Manager in implementing new or revised training programs and assists in identifying and facilitating cross-training opportunities.
  • Must have some knowledge of the ink systems and the various inks used for their application and in what capacity.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and overtime when needed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards that meet or exceeds the overall plant standards.
  • Make recommendations or suggestions to improve processes and procedures.
  • Maintains inventory of consumable supplies for the Mounting department and notifies manager of re-order needs.
  • Receives new plates and artwork for work on press and notifies manager of need to re-order plates that are worn or damaged.
  • Other duties as required by management.
  • In this position the employee is responsible for the preparation of sleeves for installation in flexographic printing presses.
  • Position entails mounting photopolymer plates onto sleeves and proofing.
  • Notifies management whenever equipment is found to be malfunctioning, damaged, or in need of repair.
  • Maintains production and quality standards as set forth by Pre-Press Manager including organizing work flow for smooth operation.
  • Makes necessary adjustments and monitors equipment so that product complies with work order.
  • Lifts and places printing sleeves of specified size on mounter-proofing machine.
  • Measures and sets cameras used as guides for alignment of printing plates.
  • Applies cushion backing to sleeve to prep for plate mounting.
  • Maneuvers plate on sleeve for proper position according to job specifications.
  • Applies ink to plates with roller and makes a trial impression on proof paper.
  • Examines proof to detect typographical or compositional errors and to verify quality and registration of print.
  • Capable of reading work orders and production reports located at the machines.
  • Verbally communicates with all employees, Management, and Maintenance.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Amcor’s guidelines.
  • Visually inspects production area for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards, employee safety, adherence to EHS policies and maintains compliance with housekeeping rules.
