About The Position

Partners with the Prepared Foods Manager to operate the department, overseeing financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, and task delegation. The role ensures the department provides an exceptional customer shopping experience with the highest level of service and product knowledge. It also involves contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment by providing exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications.

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of retail grocery Prepared Foods, Deli or food production department and / or similar restaurant, café or food industry experience required.
  • Mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software preferred with skills to learn new software and computer programs.
  • Medium means the worker can occasionally (1 – 33%) lift 50 pounds and can lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds frequently (34 – 66%).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Financial acumen regarding sales and margin preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Prepared Foods Manager to operate all areas of the department.
  • Assists in training and coaching staff.
  • Prioritizes and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions.
  • Ensures all areas of department are stocked, rotated, faced and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Partners with department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions in department.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders Prepared Foods products according to business needs.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve business goals.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products to make attractive presentations, in accordance with merchandising standards and category schematics, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Implements plans for weekly ads, events and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates with Operations department to conduct in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition.
  • Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of backstock areas.
  • Assists customers with product selection, packaging and labeling.
  • Shares product knowledge with customers.
  • Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Wraps, weighs and prices products according to department policy.
  • Processes customers’ made-to-order items accurately and expeditiously.
  • Assists with food preparation and production.
  • Supports department manager and store leadership in completion of periodic inventory.
  • Responds to and follows through on emails and other communications in a timely manner.
  • Supports effective communication systems within the department and store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
