About The Position

New Leaf Community Markets is seeking a Prepared Foods Assistant Manager to partner with the Department Manager in overseeing the Prepared Foods department. This role involves managing staff, financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management. The Assistant Manager will provide leadership in line with company values, promoting a positive and progressive work environment aligned with the company's mission, vision, and policies. Requirements

  • Previous food service, retail, or grocery management experience required.
  • Knowledge of retail grocery Prepared Foods, Deli, or food production department and/or similar restaurant, café, or food industry experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level computer proficiency required.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales, and profit margin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand, and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
  • Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Excel and inventory software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Department Manager to manage and provide oversight to all areas of the department.
  • Assists in management of all department staff, including review writing, scheduling, and providing ongoing coaching, development, and feedback.
  • Assesses, prioritizes, and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, merchandising standards, and category schematics.
  • Partners with department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintain appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders Prepared Foods products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, and trains staff to write orders and production schedules.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Partners with department manager to plan for weekly ads, events, and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Develops and maintains teamwork among all members of the team.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations.
  • Wraps, weighs, and prices products according to department policy.
  • Processes customers’ made-to-order items accurately and expeditiously.
  • Assists with food preparation and production.
  • Partners with department manager to plan, lead, and analyze the monthly perishable inventory.
  • Demonstrates and shares a solid knowledge of products and industry trends, with a general understanding of culinary terminology, product labelling, and common dietary restrictions.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of labor, sales, and margin goals and factors that influence them, working with the department manager to meet these goals.
  • Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Coaches department to maintain appropriate, accurate, and organized inventory and back stock.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment and is able to train staff and troubleshoot errors.
  • Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balances administrative tasks with presence on the floor.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
