About The Position

Under general supervision, the Prep Cook supports the winery kitchen by preparing high-quality food items that complement the winery’s culinary and wine offerings. This role focuses on precision, presentation, and consistency while working in a fast-paced yet hospitality-driven environment. The Prep Cook plays an important part in creating a memorable guest experience through thoughtful food preparation and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred (minimum 6 months recommended).
  • Interest in food and wine pairing or willingness to learn about wine programs.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially in presentation and cleanliness.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with kitchen staff and front-of-house team.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours), and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Food Handler’s Certification required (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Complete opening and closing kitchen checklists to ensure readiness and cleanliness.
  • Review daily prep lists and event menus, including wine pairing menus, to prioritize tasks.
  • Prepare a variety of ingredients including cheeses, charcuterie, fresh produce, sauces, spreads, and light composed dishes.
  • Assist in assembling and plating menu items such as small plates, grazing boards, and tasting pairings with an emphasis on presentation.
  • Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Properly label, date, and store all food items according to health regulations.
  • Support service by restocking stations and assisting line cooks or chefs as needed during busy tasting room hours or events.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management to ensure smooth service.
  • Report equipment issues, food quality concerns, or inventory shortages promptly to the Chef or Sous Chefs.
  • Assist with event preparation, including private tastings, winery dinners, and special events.
  • Uphold the winery’s standards of hospitality, professionalism, and guest service.
