About The Position

This role is for a Prep Cook/Server at Northwestern Mutual. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of food production experience.
  • Proven knowledge of and regular compliance with safe food handling standards.
  • Proven knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and translate recipes.
  • High degree of personal initiative and motivation.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of organization while working quickly and productively.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical requirements of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a variety of salads, hot vegetables, condiments, and related menu items for cafeteria and catering services.
  • Assist with food preparation needs, including salads, condiments, fruit plates, vegetable plates, sliced meats, sandwiches, and preparation of raw ingredients.
  • Observe safe food handling practices, including washing produce, proper thawing of meats, sanitizing work surfaces, and thorough hand washing.
  • Support the menu management process, including ordering and inventory.
  • Respond to customer questions or concerns in an expedient and appropriate manner.
  • Review recipes, organize work for efficiency and food safety, and make recommendations for recipe adjustments.
  • Translate weights, measures, and volume as needed for recipe execution.
  • Assist chefs in food preparation, potentially including hot food preparation.
  • Weigh, measure, cut, slice, and safely use a variety of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and complete labeling and date marking of products.
  • Maintain time and temperature records to ensure food safety.
  • Operate and clean equipment following safety guidelines, including the use of PPEs.
  • Provide feedback for recipe improvements.
  • Follow the ordering process as defined.
  • Assure accurate portions and monitor adequate records, including HACCP logs and usage reports.
  • Inventory food storage areas and assess leftovers.
  • Project ordering needs and quantities of all foods for timely preparation and efficient menu management.
  • Coordinate product distribution for various points of service, including other kitchen areas, salad bar, serving stations, and catered events.
  • Deliver on Restaurant Hospitality standards.
  • Communicate with customers and servers, providing information verbally regarding the menu, preparation methods, and services.
  • Respond to customer concerns with the aim of immediate resolution or corrective action.
  • Maintain professional communication with all colleagues.
  • Adjust work location, tasks, or assignments as needed to adapt to changes in business needs, customer demands, or staffing changes.
  • Assist with serving lunch as part of everyday duties.
