Western Carolina Surgery Center is hiring a FT PreOp PACU RN! Western Carolina Surgery Center is a patient-focused ambulatory surgery center dedicated to delivering high-quality outpatient surgical care through advanced technology, clinical excellence, and a collaborative team environment. Accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the center features a state-of-the-art facility with one operating room and three treatment rooms, supporting a variety of specialties including Orthopedics, Spine Surgery, Podiatry, ENT, and Ophthalmology. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing
  • Active RN license in the state
  • BLS and ACLS Required, PALS if required by the center
  • Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet the needs of the patients and the unit
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience in PACU or Critical Care preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications.
  • Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations.
  • Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.
  • Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.
  • Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations.
  • Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being.
  • Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.
  • Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed.
  • Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions.
  • Performs circulating and/or scrub responsibilities as needed to support surgical procedures and ensure efficient patient care and operating room workflow.
