About The Position

We are seeking a Billing Specialist to support the Premium Billing team. This role is phone‑heavy and customer‑facing, focused on assisting members with billing questions, payments, account research, and resolution of routine inquiries. The ideal candidate brings strong customer service skills, comfort navigating multiple systems, and a desire to grow within the organization. This role requires being available on the phones most of the day and delivering consistent, high‑quality service while handling a high volume of inbound calls - especially during Open Enrollment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience (healthcare experience not required)
  • Strong verbal communication skills and professional phone presence
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and resolve customer issues effectively
  • Self-motivated with the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior customer service while independently completing premium billing functions, including research and problem-solving
  • Receive and manage inbound calls from internal and external customers regarding billing and payment inquiries
  • Resolve customer concerns during the initial call whenever possible or provide timely follow-up when additional research is required
  • Complete assigned outbound calls related to delinquent accounts and billing follow-up
  • Answer billing questions, process payments, and educate members and groups on billing and payment processes
  • Assist members with enrolling in online billing and payment systems
  • Verify eligibility for reinstatement reviews and complete required documentation when applicable
  • Maintain confidentiality of member information and comply with company policies
  • Navigate multiple, complex systems with minimal supervision
  • Meet established performance standards for response time, call handling time, audits, and availability
  • Collaborate with other departments to correct or update member accounts
