About The Position

This position is for a PreKindergarten Special Education Teacher for the 26/27 School Year. The teacher will be responsible for aiding each student, consistent with their abilities and educational needs, in developing competence in basic learning skills, progressing on the basis of achievement, qualifying for further education and/or employment, developing ethical standards of behavior and participating in society as a responsible family member and citizen, developing a positive and realistic concept of self and others, enhancing the beauty of the environment and response to aesthetic experience, and practicing sound habits of safe living and personal health. The role involves maintaining professional self-behavior, providing care and supervision of students, demonstrating effective knowledge of and interaction with the community and parents, and complying with district policies and regulations. The teacher will create an environment conducive to learning, utilize curriculum content, facilities, equipment, and materials effectively, and foster positive interpersonal relationships with students, peers, and specialists. Responsibilities include observing and evaluating student performance, maintaining records, supervising volunteers and paraprofessionals, and responding to parent inquiries in a timely manner. The teacher must also comply with all school laws and regulations, attend meetings, and learn evaluation criteria. The position requires a commitment to personal and professional growth and the ability to use relevant technology to support instruction.

Requirements

  • Must possess good moral character.
  • Must possess at a minimum a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have met the Virginia Department of Education requirements to possess a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education - Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth in the teaching field or in the field of teaching, as well as the improvement of the profession.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Serve as a role model.

  • Comply with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all rules and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Attend all meetings called or approved by the Superintendent, Principal or Supervising Officer.
  • Learn the criteria for the evaluation of the Teacher; especially the areas of evaluation procedures, evaluation, steps and appeals.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal.
