We are looking to hire a Prehospital (Transport) Registered Nurse The Prehospital (Transport) Registered Nurse provides high‑quality, compassionate, and evidence‑based care to critically ill or injured patients during interfacility transports or scene responses. This role functions within a multidisciplinary team—often paired with a paramedic or another RN—to deliver advanced clinical care in ground or air transport settings. The Transport RN maintains a high level of clinical judgment, autonomy, and readiness to respond in dynamic, often unpredictable environments. Adheres to MercyOne’s performance expectations and upholds the Mission, Vision, and Values of MercyOne. Schedule: Full Time 36 hours a week

Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing required.
  • Iowa RN Exemption or Illinois PHRN certification required.
  • Current Iowa RN license, (MercyOne Genesis - current Registered Nurse (RN) license in either Iowa or Illinois is required at the time of hire. A secondary RN license for the other state must be obtained within 12 months of the hire date.)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, meeting all organizational motor vehicle safety standards.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as applicable.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) or equivalent within 1 year of hire.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing(BSN) preferred.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) - 100 (preferred).
  • Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) provider (preferred).
  • Advance Medical Life Support (AMLS) provider (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced prehospital nursing care following state, regional, and organizational protocols.
  • Performs comprehensive patient assessments, identifies priority needs, and implements appropriate interventions.
  • Administers medications, titrates drips, and manages ventilators, infusion pumps, and other specialty equipment during transport.
  • Executes advanced procedures within scope (e.g., advanced airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, blood product administration depending on program).
  • Ensures continuity of care through detailed patient handoff reports to receiving facilities.
  • Ensures vehicle and equipment readiness at the start and end of each shift, including medication checks and safety inspections.
  • Maintains safe transport practices in coordination with drivers/pilots and EMS partners.
  • Demonstrates strong situational awareness and adheres to all safety protocols, including infection control and PPE use.
  • Participates in quality improvement, chart audits, peer review, and continuing education activities.
  • Communicates effectively with sending/receiving providers, EMS personnel, dispatch, and team members.
  • Documents all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Represents the transport program professionally within hospitals and the community.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
