About The Position

The Prefab Shop Assistant 2 will proficiently produce components for multiple construction project types at an off-site manufacturing facility utilizing a variety of automated tools and specialized equipment. This position also is responsible for moving raw and partly finished materials within the facility, packaging finished components and loading materials onto trucks. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn. Autonomy and Decision-Making: Follows directions and refers all exceptions to supervisor. Requirements

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner

  • Ability to follow-up on inquiries in a timely manner
  • Ability to identify common fabrication materials and shop equipment
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Apprentice and/or Vocational/Technical/Trade training
  • Equivalent relevant experience will be considered
  • 2+ years commercial construction, manufacturing, or fabrication shop experience

Responsibilities

  • Operates a number of types of automated equipment to produce metal or wood components
  • Operates manual shop equipment; uses cut list to make repeatable parts
  • Applies basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to production activities, such as cutting parts to size or putting multiple parts together in an assembly
  • Collects multiple components cut to specific sizes and assembles together an end product.
  • Packages and loads cut materials and assemblies for transport to project sites
  • Accurately reads and understands a tape measure
  • Responsible for cleaning up the shop, shop equipment, and common areas
  • Uses technology such as tablet computers and multiple types of software to communicate, inform daily work tasks and report progress
  • Operates automated equipment proficiently without the assistance of facility supervision
  • Completes basic manual equipment setup without assistance
  • Completes tooling changes and automated equipment preventive maintenance without assistance
  • Assembles complex components from finished materials with limited supervision
  • Uses precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers, etc. to check material, parts, and tooling to the thousandth of an inch
  • Prepares cut lists from a bill of materials or fabrication drawings
  • Checks delivered materials or material ready to be shipped against paper work and make a detailed reporting of variances
