About The Position

The Preconstruction Scheduler supports planning, development, and maintenance of schedules for heavy civil infrastructure projects. Working with Preconstruction, Estimating, Project Management, and Field Operations teams, the role helps develop realistic schedules based on construction sequencing, production rates, equipment utilization, and project requirements. It calls for practical knowledge of heavy civil construction operations, such as earthwork, excavation, grading, concrete structures, and site development, and working experience with Primavera P6. This office-based role is suited to people with field engineering, project engineering, project coordination, or construction operations experience who want to move into preconstruction planning and scheduling. Under experienced leadership, the position offers opportunities to develop expertise in P6, baseline schedules, construction sequencing, project controls, and planning. Travel to project sites and other meetings is required as needed.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with CPM concepts, including activity relationships, float, and critical path.
  • Hands-on exposure to Primavera P6, such as creating, reviewing, maintaining, cost/resource loading, or updating construction schedules.
  • Working proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, collaboration, and communication skills.

  • Exposure to equipment productivity, crew planning, construction quantities, estimating, bidding, or public infrastructure work (DOT, USACE, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Work with the pre-construction team to prepare schedules for bids before bid due dates.
  • Support preliminary schedules for heavy civil bids and proposed projects in collaboration with estimating and operations.
  • Review drawings, specifications, quantities, and project approaches to identify activities, milestones, construction sequences, and scheduling constraints.
  • Use field knowledge of construction activities, equipment, crews, and production rates to help establish realistic durations.
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules in Primavera P6, with guidance as appropriate.
  • Assist with baseline schedules, activity logic, progress updates, look-ahead schedules, and schedule reports.
  • Compare planned and actual progress and help identify critical activities, delays, constraints, and potential schedule impacts.
  • Participate in planning discussions with project managers, superintendents, field engineers, and subcontractors to develop two-week look-ahead schedules and discuss progress, deadlines, and planned work.
  • Support resource or cost loading, recovery scheduling, and advanced analyses as skills develop and project needs require.
  • Develop or support time impact analyses and fragnets for change orders, requests for equitable adjustments, and claims.
