About The Position

The Preconstruction Manager will provide leadership for estimating and planning support personnel. This role involves monitoring project budgeting and buy-out processes, facilitating communication of cost history for better cost modeling, and overseeing planning support processes for efficient resource utilization. The position interfaces with marketing to ensure all relevant information is considered and assists in the evaluation and execution of new scope of services and profit centers. Responsibilities include monitoring productivity and cost control, attending project review meetings to resolve budget issues, and planning/implementing training for estimators. The role is also responsible for identifying and procuring profitable projects by overseeing business development activities, including customer relationships, networking, public relations, client database maintenance, and executing client matrices. Additionally, the Preconstruction Manager oversees all sales activities, such as lead identification and pre-qualification, procurement strategies, proposal development, and responding to RFQ's, SOQ's, and RFP's. They will establish goals, procedures, systems, and tools for sales/marketing tasks and commit the company in the project procurement process for SBU projects. This position supervises Estimating activities and personnel, taking on the team's successes and failures. The employee will work with Executives, Estimating and Planning Support Personnel, and clients. Other related duties as assigned include representing Abbott Construction in the community by attending industry events.

Requirements

  • BS in Construction Management, Marketing and/or Communication or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum ten years construction-related experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Superior communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Utilizes good judgment and remains efficient while under stress.
  • Capable of communicating effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the construction process.
  • Must have a strong work ethic, sense of urgency, organizational skills, task oriented.
  • Must be willing to travel if required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for estimating and planning support personnel.
  • Monitor project budgeting and buy-out processes to ensure reliable information is available for estimates.
  • Facilitate communication of cost history to ensure on-going evaluation of pricing information for better cost modeling and estimating.
  • Monitor planning support processes to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Interface with marketing to ensure consideration of all relevant information, issues, and brand name recognition.
  • Assist in the evaluation, planning and execution of new scope of services and profit centers.
  • Monitor productivity and cost control on specific projects.
  • Attend project review meetings and facilitate solutions to budget problems as required.
  • Plan and implement training for estimators.
  • Identify and procure profitable projects by overseeing all business development activities, including customer relationships, networking, performing public relations activities, maintaining client database, and executing the client matrices.
  • Oversee all sales activities, including identifying and pre-qualifying leads, working on procurement strategies, developing proposals, responding to RFQ’s, SOQ’s and RFP’s.
  • Establish goals, procedures, systems, and tools used to accomplish sales/marketing tasks.
  • Commit the company in the project procurement process with respect to SBU projects.
  • Supervise Estimating activities and personnel.
  • Represent Abbott Construction in the community by attending appropriate industry events as approved by the Vice President.
