About The Position

DPR Construction is seeking a Preconstruction Engineer for their Self Perform Concrete team, requiring 1-5 years of commercial construction experience. This role primarily involves working on negotiated commercial projects within DPR's core markets, collaborating closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors. The position demands strong skills in preparing detailed bid instructions, trade-specific clarifications, comprehensive bid packages, and understanding unit costs. Candidates must have experience in Request for Proposal Responses (RFP’s) and project presentations, as well as managing supplier and subcontractor requests, preparing time-sensitive materials, and coordinating team activities from bid to proposal. The role also includes tracking vendor information, managing local vendor databases, preparing detailed estimate updates with variance summaries, and writing/negotiating subcontracts. Active participation in Value Engineering sessions is expected. Requirements

  • 1-5 years of commercial construction experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost
  • Experience being a member of the team involved in Request for Proposal Responses (RFP’s) and the formal presentation for a project
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both as a team player and independently
  • Computer competency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues
  • Effective participation in team environment
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient computer skills in Estimating software (Timberline or similar)
  • Proficient computer skills in Project Management software (Prolog or similar)
  • Proficient computer skills in Scheduling software (Primavera or similar)
  • 1-5 years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably within DPR’s Core Market projects
  • A strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation
  • Ability to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer or owner
  • Ability to develop business with new and existing customers
  • Bachelor’s degree

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors
  • Contact suppliers and vendors to discuss various requests and due dates
  • Effectively and efficiently handle subcontractor requests
  • Prepare and distribute time-sensitive materials
  • Coordinate activities of the team from bid to proposal
  • Provide a consistent customer service experience with subs and vendors
  • Track and update vendor information and manage local vendor database
  • Prepare detailed estimate updates, as the design evolves, including preparing variance summaries between estimates
  • Write and negotiate subcontracts
  • Actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with the project team and design team
  • Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation (preferred)
  • Participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer or owner (preferred)
  • Develop business with new and existing customers (preferred)
