About the Role: Work with Precision Machine Tool Mechanic’s to learn how to safely work on machinery and equipment in an industrial environment, as well as troubleshoot, diagnose, and evaluate machine malfunctions. Be instructed on how to perform tasks such as repairs, modifications, and overhaul of lathes, mills, multiaxis, mill-turn, broaches, precision grinders, numerical control machines.

Requirements

  • All candidates must be at least 18 years old and eligible to enroll as a student with San Diego City College.
  • Diploma through G.E.D. issued by a high school
  • Certificate of High School Equivalency issued by a State Board of Education
  • Certification of High School Proficiency issued by a State Board of Education
  • Completion of 15 units of college courses from an accredited college with grades of "C" or better
  • Willing to work any shift
  • Eligible to enroll in San Diego City College (High School Diploma/GED)

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to fit and scrape bearings, assemble gear trains and fit to exacting tolerances, align spindles, columns, knees, tailstocks, ways, tables, and saddles individually and in required relation to each other.
  • Determine and recommend major repairs in order to re-establish manufacturer's tolerances, and alignments, etc.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Complete a training program of four years (8,000 hours) of on-the-job training with qualified Journeymen
  • Attend related Community College classes for at least five hours per week until completion of the required courses per program guidelines
  • At the end of their Apprenticeship, apprentices are expected to perform the role of a Precision Machine Tool Mechanic
