About The Position

The Pre-treatment Plant Technician (PTP) is responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater pre-treatment plant. Responsibilities include ensuring that wastewater and waste materials, both hazardous and non-hazardous, are handled within permit specifications dictated by local, state, and federal authorities. The Technician will also serve as an Environmental, Health & Safety liaison and perform other tasks as assigned by manager. This position reports to the Site Services Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, with some college preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year manufacturing or production experience required.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals required.
  • Proficient math skills, reading comprehension skills, mechanical aptitude, and dexterity.
  • Ability to wear an OSHA approved respirator required.
  • Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, goggles, respirator, chemical apron/suit.
  • Possess the physical ability to lift and move 50 lbs. unassisted and push or pull up to 3000 lbs. repetitively.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to climb up and down stairs and ladders of different slopes and in various climates and locations.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain required certifications (e.g., DOT HAZMAT, RCRA, emergency response).

Nice To Haves

  • College level chemistry and/or previous wastewater operation experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly monitor system through reading gauges, graphs, meters, and control panels.
  • Perform bench tests and record results to maintain plant operation and diagnose system upsets.
  • Learn multiple PLCs throughout the department and how to use them.
  • Knowledge of all specifications along with ability to treat wastewater to meet Coloron’s and Upper Gwynedd Township’s defined specifications.
  • Monitor chemical supplies, adjust feed rates and plant operation as required based on bench tests and plant performance.
  • Order and receive supplies and maintain chemical stocks.
  • Maintain logs, compile equipment readings and test results into reports.
  • Provide tours and explain PTP process to visitors and regulatory authorities as needed.
  • Load wastewater into tankers for disposal and offload chemical tankers and chemicals in intermediate bulk container (IBCs).
  • Make routine adjustments, perform operational changes and basic process and equipment troubleshooting to a variety of processes, pumps, valves, and other equipment.
  • Submit timely maintenance requests when breakdowns happen.
  • Train to be a member of the site emergency response team and act as incident commander if needed.
  • Operate Colorcon’s fire, security and badging systems and communicate with local authorities including police, fire, and township officials when necessary.
  • Ability to support site operations and other departments with EHS tasks and act as EHS if needed (e.g., incident reports, inspections, emergency response)
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed by manager.
