About The Position

Prepares and evaluates outpatient charts preoperatively. Responsible and accountable for the complete review and preparation of surgical patient charts via phone, fax and multiple electronic medical record systems (EMR). Prepares and evaluates outpatient charts preoperatively in an efficient and caring manner, ensuring facilitation of patient readiness for the day of surgery. Conduct pre-surgical work-ups by calling patients and/or reviewing charts of outpatients to ensure completeness, as indicated in Nursing Guidelines: Pre-operative Admission Requirements. Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, patients, families, physicians and other health team members. Complies with OSHA/TJC and other regulatory agency recommendations and guidelines. Utilizes computer, fax and phone to obtain and input appropriate information. Discusses pre-operative instructions with patients and/or their families if completing PSA phone call. Attends mandatory meetings. Participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects. Participates in maintenance of unit resource materials and orientation of new employees.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Nursing, or higher
  • RN with license to practice in the state of Iowa
