Requirements

  • High school student or equivalent.
  • Basic office skills such as keyboarding and filing.
  • 3 months to 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information for accurate billing, precertification and patient cost estimations.
  • Verify eligibility, benefits, patient cost estimates & precertification for scheduled outpatient surgeries/procedures.
  • Notify scheduled patients of estimated amount due for scheduled outpatient tests/procedures and attempt to collect self-pay balances prior to services rendered. Communicate to admitting staff for any patients needing to pay at the time of service of amount to collect.
  • Edit all necessary information for proper billing to ensure accuracy and timely submission to insurance carriers.
  • Apply customer service skills to resolve patient inquires and concerns pertaining to their hospital accounts.
  • Organize and prioritize work based on time needed to complete with minimum supervision. Exhibit good judgment as well as thorough knowledge of ethical and legal billing procedures.
  • Stay informed of changes in billing & precertification procedures that affect processes and reimbursement effectiveness.
  • Meet department goals.
  • Communicate with other members of the coding/clinical/hospital/billing/registration staff with any information that needs to be shared.
  • Welcome patients to the hospital/department by greeting patient and visitors over the telephone, answers inquiries or refers questions to other staff members when needed.
  • Monitor the creation, maintenance, and distribution of all required hospital documents and necessary insurance documents and information.
  • Use the appropriate processes to scan and archive important patient information and documentation
  • Identify learning opportunities, seeks guidance in new or unfamiliar situations.
  • Refer patients concerned about payment to Patient Accounts.
  • Act as a resource person for staff and hospital departments for questions and problems. Assist in the training and orientation of staff.
  • Provide coverage for CWS works on an as-needed basis.
  • Complete any project assigned by the CWS Director or Insurance Coordinator to the best of his/her abilities.
