About The Position

Cenveo is a leading North American manufacturer of envelopes with over 100 years of experience, producing approximately 30 billion envelopes annually. They are committed to safety, quality, and operational excellence. This role is for an experienced Pre Press Operator at their Jersey City, NJ manufacturing facility. The Pre‑Press Operator / Graphic Designer / Plate Maker is responsible for preparing customer artwork and production files for envelope printing. This includes artwork setup, file preparation, proofing, and daily plate production to support the printing department, ensuring accurate, high‑quality output and a smooth workflow within the envelope manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; vocational/technical training preferred
  • 7--10 years relevant experience preferred
  • MAC OS experience required
  • Digital printing experience preferred; plate‑making experience a plus
  • Able to read/interpret specs, layouts, and production documents
  • Strong attention to detail, including assessing plate quality
  • Basic math skills (fractions, measurements, metric conversions)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of pre‑press workflows
  • Strong computer and file‑management skills
  • Able to follow written instructions and SOPs
  • Strong organization, time‑management, communication, and teamwork
  • Effective problem‑solving and commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and modify customer artwork for print.
  • Create print‑ready files using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Produce digital and hard‑copy proofs.
  • Perform pre‑flight checks and troubleshoot file issues.
  • Maintain organized digital files and archives.
  • Produce printing plates for flexographic or offset presses.
  • Operate plate‑making equipment and related software.
  • Inspect plates for accuracy and quality.
  • Label, store, and maintain plate inventory.
  • Communicate job specs to press operators.
  • Coordinate with scheduling and manufacturing to meet deadlines.
  • Support efficient production flow.
  • Ensure artwork, proofs, and plates meet company standards.
  • Verify color accuracy and print specifications.
  • Conduct final checks before jobs move to production.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards for inks and waste.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Work overtime as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits
