About The Position

The Pre-Op RN will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery, ensuring they are ready both physically and emotionally, and providing essential preoperative care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas.
• BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required.
• Strong clinical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
• This position is primarily an action position requiring walking, bending, stooping, crawling, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• At times must lift up to 75 pounds.
• Potential for long periods of standing.
• Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity to interface with the computer and other facility operating systems.
• Must have auditory acuity to effectively interact with patients and public.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in preoperative care, surgical nursing, or a similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing patient histories, physical exams, and lab results.
• Provide patients and their families with information about the surgical process, including preoperative instructions and what to expect postoperatively.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including starting IVs, administering preoperative medications, and ensuring consent forms are completed.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and condition before surgery.
• Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation.
• Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
• Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as state and federal guidelines.
