About The Position

This is a premium rate, full-time 40 weekly hour shifts dual position supporting the PACU at both the Bucks-Chalfont Surgery Center and Philadelphia Campuses. The SWAT nurse is a highly skilled, highly trained experienced nurse who provides support to both the ASCs and the main hospital. The SWAT nurse is able to function independently to provide safe, quality and clinically competent care. The SWAT nurse is able to plan, implement, evaluate and document care that is in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

Requirements

• At least 1 year pediatric PACU experience is required.
• Technical Diploma Nursing Required
• At least two (2) years Operating Room Experience Required or
• At least one (1) year PACU or critical care nursing experience Required and
• At least one (1) year Pediatric nursing experience Required
• Computer Competency (Required proficiency)
• Basic Use of MS Word 2007. (Required proficiency)
• Creating meeting minutes, charts, and tables. (Required proficiency)
• Saving and naming new and established files. (Required proficiency)
• Basic Use of MS PowerPoint 2007. (Required proficiency)
• Creating education presentations using clip art. (Required proficiency)
• Basic Use of MS Excel 2007. (Required proficiency)
• Creating simple spreadsheets, sometimes using symbols. (Required proficiency)
• Navigation and basic search functions of the Internet using Internet Explorer. (Required proficiency)
• Use of MS Outlook 2007 email, opening attachments, attaching new files to emails, and saving attached files to computer. (Required proficiency)
• Use of shared network file space. (Required proficiency)
• Basic use of computers, printers, monitors, patient care devices, and fax machines. (Required proficiency)
• Navigation and use of Sortec Nurse Call system. (Required proficiency)

• Use of Internet and Intranet to look up basic electronic resources for practice. (Required proficiency)
• Ability to find and print Patient Family Education Documents. (Required proficiency)
• Ability to find PPM Department Council minutes from last month. (Required proficiency)

• Ability to perform a literature search on the Internet and ability to find professional journal and/or research-based articles. (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

• PALS and ACLS certifications preferred.
• Pediatric Critical Care experience (ICU) preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

Responsibilities

• Follows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Synthesizes patient assessment data and recognizes complex situations prior to communicating with care team.
• Collaborates with family, team members, and other caregivers to initiate/update plan of care, patient/family education, and discharge needs.
• Manages care of complex patients utilizing proper prioritization and delegation to appropriate staff.
• Identifies expected outcomes, revises plan of care when unexpected outcomes arise, and begins to use full range of communication as a means of conveying plan.
• Documents ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care utilizing current hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
• Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements.
• Role models appearance and behaviors that promote a positive image of nursing.
• Interacts with parents/patients and colleagues with respect and dignity.
• Spends “the extra time” with families, listening for avenues to improve on the ideal patient experience.
• Understands the impact of arriving to work on time, is ready to start the shift, and predicts challenges and obstacles.
• Provides an accurate patient status report to members of the team that reflect nursing interventions and patient outcomes.
• Actively participates in patient care rounds and makes recommendations to the plan of care.
• Chairs and/or participates in unit PPM council and may participate in departmental PPM council.
• Reads nursing articles, analyzes information, and initiates staff discussion(s).
• Assists with data collection in research studies being conducted in work area.
• Participates in efforts to apply research findings to clinical practice.
• Frames basic research questions.
• Identifies own learning needs. Seeks out opportunities to meet needs and attends all required programs.
• Applies education and training from internal in-services to daily work to enhance personal nursing knowledge and skills.
• Attends education programs related to patient population.
• Utilizes patient education materials relevant to patient population.
• Demonstrates healthcare informatics competency to manage patient care, outcome data, and current and emerging healthcare technology, which include: Basic computer competency, Information literacy, Information management skills.
• Participates in promoting quality, efficient, and cost-effective care.
• Monitors own usage of supplies and equipment. Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations.
• Manages own time to accomplish direct/indirect care in a cost-efficient manner.
