POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Swim Director or other assigned associate, the Pre Lifeguard associate is responsible for successfully completing all required training and certifications to become a certified lifeguard. This position is also responsible for assisting with safety, cleanliness and operation of the swimming pool during operating hours. The primary function of the Pre-Lifeguard associate will be general support to maintain safety for our members on the pool deck.

Requirements

  • Must meet qualifications established by the Y in Central Maryland.
  • Willing to obtain Red Cross Lifeguard Certification within 60 days.
  • Current CPR/AED/Oxygen/First Aid certification (O2 within 30 days of hire).
  • Successful completion of the Y in Central Maryland swim test.
  • Flexible availability, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Completion of new hire training, including Child Abuse Prevention, prior to first scheduled shift.
  • Good character, professional demeanor, and the ability to follow directions, accept supervision, and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on quality experiences and engagement within programs, services, and activities
  • Must have understanding of the age and stages of youth development, and work with children
  • Support communication between associates and members/parents
  • Informing proper leaders of operating challenges, equipment/supply needs, and/or conflicts during operating hours (either with members and/or associates)
  • Enforces Y in Central Maryland policies, guidelines, and best practices
  • Encourage member engagement and outstanding member experience
  • Foster an environment that is positive and motivating to families, children, and peers.
  • Effectively coordinate facility usage for assigned programs and activities
  • Supports center’s annual support campaign and provide leadership support to associate giving and engagement
  • Ability to work with diverse population, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings as assigned
  • Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct
  • Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community.
  • Assist in all other areas as assigned.
