About The Position

The Lead Pre-K Teacher oversees the care and development of up to fifteen (15) children aged 3-5 years (including those with special needs) under the guidance of the Early Head Start/Pre-K Center Director and general supervision of the Education Managers. This primary caregiver is responsible for organizing and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that promote social and self-help skills, problem-solving, and personal relationships. The Lead Pre-K Teacher maintains a clean, safe, and orderly physical environment, supervises classroom activities, and participates in parent education and involvement. Regulatory compliance with Nevada Ready Pre-K, SNHD, and Nevada State Licensing is required, and the Lead Pre-K Teacher may be assigned to different classrooms/centers and tasks as needed to achieve program goals. Non-degreed teachers are required to Participate in the T.E.A.C.H program is until the Lead Pre-K Teacher is fully compliant with educational requirements.

Requirements

  • Must possess, at minimum, a Pre-K CDA Certification or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • A commitment to enroll in and complete a Bachelor’s degree through the T.E.A.C.H. program.
  • 2 years’ experience in a childcare setting.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English well enough to understand and be understood.
  • Ability to read and understand basic child development written material.
  • Ability to add, subtract and divide.
  • Interacts tactfully with supervisors, officials, employees, families and children.
  • Positive and objective attitude towards others with a willingness to engage and support as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of incoming and outgoing paperwork with high regard.
  • Completes all required training within their appropriate timeframes.
  • Must undergo a physical examination and submit documentation before the hiring date. This must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.
  • Submission of negative TB results (One-Step Skin Test or Chest X-Ray) prior to employment and during employment.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing to ensure a drug-free workplace.
  • Obtain Live Scan Fingerprints for Child Care prior to hire date and maintain for duration of employment.
  • Proof of a valid driver's license prior to hire, which must be kept up to date throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred BA in Early Childhood Education
  • 4 or more years of experience in a childcare setting
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses or is able to learn and have thorough understanding of Nevada Ready! Pre-K, Pre-K project and its scope of work, licensing regulations, additional state requirements, and SCF's policies and procedures.
  • Weekly preparation of daily lesson plans and posting of objectives for parents, volunteers, and visitors in the classroom.
  • Development of an individualized plan for each child based on screening, assessment, parent input, and observation. The plan will include objectives and activities to meet established goals (outcomes).
  • Scheduling, conducting, and recording home visits and parent-teacher conferences as required and when necessary.
  • Builds positive and productive relationships with families that focus on trust and support and encourage involvement in the SCF program.
  • Co-plans and participates in orientation of new families.
  • Plans and facilitates monthly parent meetings at the center and other social activities for parents.
  • Involves parents in educational activities that support their role as their child’s first teacher, including volunteering in the classroom.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of SCF children, families, and staff, following established policies and procedures.
  • Creates and maintains a healthy and safe learning environment that is culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate.
  • Engages in transition activities, including registration, classroom transitions, and preschool transitions.
  • Collaborates with program staff to increase resources, accomplish tasks, resolve conflict, and support the overall program.
  • Promoting the organization's mission, standards, and philosophy with families, program partners, and the community
  • Upholding the organization's core values.
  • Other program responsibilities and duties as assigned.
