Our Elementary School: We believe a culture of care leads to a culture of achievement. Our program is dedicated to providing each student with the tools and support to become lifelong learners. That includes embracing that 89% of S2 families are Hispanic or Latinx. Consequently, we launched Dos Amigos, an immersive Dual Language K-5 learning model in 2020, building students’ confidence in their identity and their ability to navigate and celebrate our richly diverse world. Dos Amigos, located in the heart of Inwood, provides our young learners with the tools that stimulate their minds, helping them outperform students in single language programs. Our Lead Pre-K Teacher: We are looking for a dedicated, mission-aligned bilingual Lead Pre-K Teacher who both loves and respects our children. Reporting to our Principal and in collaboration with a diverse and committed School Leadership Team (SLT), you will support our efforts to deliver rigorous and engaging instruction research-based on effective bilingual teaching strategies while also focusing on the social-emotional needs of all students. The Lead Pre-K Teacher along with their Associate Teacher, each providing instruction in Spanish or English on alternate days. Requirements

  • Skilled in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Experience using play to nurture and build social emotional skills (read aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent reading) and SOR to support a diverse community of students’ Kindergarten readiness skills.
  • Experience with interactive, hands on, creative learning that promote concept and skill development.
  • Experience with use of technology to support instruction in all areas.
  • Experience using multiple data sources to drive instruction.
  • Experience with differentiation of curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Knowledge of co-teaching strategies.
  • Nurturing and playful; provide early-learning experiences that contribute to children’s positive feelings about school, teachers, and their communities while supporting children’s development across social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic competencies.
  • Reflective and use multiple data sources to make day-by-day decisions about instruction with the capacity to accept and implement feedback to improve instruction.
  • Inclusive in ensuring that a child’s family, culture, and previous experiences are celebrated and incorporated into the classroom community.
  • Intentional in engaging in ongoing professional learning and have dedicated time for planning, practice, and reflection.
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent communication and planning skills.
  • Diverse; classrooms are rich with materials and print that represent diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong believer in anti racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices.
  • Graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education program in relevant content area.
  • Possesses a valid New York State Teaching Certification.
  • Experienced as a full-time effective, impactful early childhood classroom teacher with a minimum of three years in an elementary school.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual extension is preferred.
  • Experience in an urban charter school setting is preferred.
