Pre-K Lead Teacher – Afterschool Program
About The Position
The Art Farm NYC is seeking an experienced and dependable Pre-K Lead Teacher to lead an afterschool classroom for preschool-aged children. This position is ideal for someone with experience in Pre-K, preschool, daycare, Head Start, early childhood education, or another structured classroom environment who enjoys creating a warm, organized, and engaging space for young children. The Lead Teacher is responsible for guiding the daily classroom routine, leading developmentally appropriate activities, supervising children, supporting social-emotional development, and working closely with an Assistant Teacher and program leadership.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with Pre-K or preschool-aged children.
- Experience leading a classroom, group, camp, or early childhood program strongly preferred.
- Dependable and able to consistently work Monday through Friday during afternoon hours.
- Comfortable collaborating with an Assistant Teacher and program leadership.
Nice To Haves
- Background in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
- Strong classroom-management and communication skills.
- Ability to create structure while remaining patient, nurturing, and flexible.
- Comfortable working with young children who may need additional support with transitions, emotions, toileting, or other age-appropriate needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a classroom of preschool-aged children during the afterschool program.
- Follow an established daily schedule and classroom routine.
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities, including art, science, sensory play, stories, games, and movement.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and well-supervised classroom environment.
- Support children with transitions, snack, play, cleanup, and dismissal.
- Use positive classroom-management and behavior-support techniques.
- Encourage social skills, independence, communication, and positive peer interactions.
- Provide direction and support to an Assistant Teacher.
- Maintain attendance and required classroom documentation.
- Communicate concerns regarding student behavior, development, safety, or health to program leadership.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, school staff, and fellow team members.
