About The Position

The Pre K Auxiliary Teacher (Grant funded) will provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials. This role involves assisting the lead teacher with instruction, assessment, documentation, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. The position requires adherence to all board policies and a commitment to student well-being and development.

Requirements

  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Possess a minimum of an Associate’s Degree OR 48 college credits from an accredited college or university OR an appropriate score on the ACT WorkKeys Paraprofessional Assessment Tests to meet the required federal standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  • Possess a Child Development Associate credential OR appropriate coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development (9-12 hours in child development/ECE/or appropriate other coursework).
  • Meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation upon offer of employment.
  • Adhering to safety practices.

  • Operating standard office equipment and using pertinent software applications.
  • Basic math skills, including calculations using fractions, percent, and/or ratios.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in using the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool and the OSR First Class Framework to inform and guide instruction.
  • Assist the lead teacher on GOLD observations and documentation.
  • Assist the lead teacher by modeling cooperation and collaboration throughout the day.
  • Alert the lead teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of professionally certified teachers.
  • Participate in parental involvement activities.
  • Participate in professional development associated with the First Class program and as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
