About The Position

Boston Public Schools is offering a fee-based PreK Afterschool Program at participating schools. The program provides high-quality afterschool programming for students in PreK with developmentally appropriate learning experiences and care in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Nine (9) + credit hours of college coursework in early childhood education or related field, or forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate’s Degree, or a passing score on one of the following formalized standardized assessments: ParaPro Assessment; or ACT WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with young children.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education, coursework, or professional training is preferred.
  • Preparation in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Coursework in Child Growth and Development is particularly valued.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children in an early childhood, preschool, or afterschool setting.
  • Experience supporting young children with disabilities in inclusive or specialized early childhood settings.
  • Experience working in a Boston Public Schools setting, particularly at the school where the position is located.
  • Familiarity with the students, families, and school community served by the program.
  • Proficiency in Cape Verdean Creole and English.
  • Candidates who are fluent in one or more of BPS’s official languages are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Implements curriculum and developmentally appropriate enrichment activities provided by the Boston Public Schools Department of Early Childhood.
  • Provides active supervision during all program activities and daily routines, including arrival, snack, indoor and outdoor play, transitions, and caregiver pick-up.
  • Promotes children's health, safety, and personal hygiene (including diapering when necessary).
  • Supports the successful participation of all children, including children with disabilities and diverse developmental and learning needs.
  • Adheres to Boston Public Schools policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment conducive to children's learning and development.
  • Collaborates with afterschool Facilitators, school staff, and families to support children's success.
  • Participates in required orientation, staff meetings, and training.
