About The Position

The Pre-Delivery Inspection/Repair Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality of parts and finished heavy-duty trucks by performing inspections and repairs. This role involves identifying and logging defects, providing feedback to production management, and participating in root cause problem-solving. The technician will interpret work orders, assembly instructions, and technical diagrams, and will mentor junior teammates on repair processes and basic truck issues. Key responsibilities include operating various hand and power tools, collaborating with team members to achieve quality goals, managing materials, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. The technician is also expected to maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to all safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably assembly in the heavy-duty truck industry.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a Production Vehicle Technician or Pre-Delivery and repair Technician.
  • Experience in performing full vehicle PDI and reporting in the heavy-duty truck industry.
  • Experience in performing and troubleshooting full vehicle repairs after PDI is completed in the heavy-duty truck industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to access computer programs and use or learn basic computer operations related to position requirements required e.g. MS Office, AXIS, QMS, teams and GoCanvas.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with supervisors, engineers, and coworkers.
  • Ability to devise logical, and efficient methods of troubleshooting complex and difficult manufacturing or process issues.
  • Basic electrical diagnostics.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Basic pneumatic trouble shooting.
  • Proper usage of Digital Voltage Ohm Meter (DVOM).
  • Ability to read English and understand technical diagrams, work orders, assembly instructions and quality standards.
  • Able to use fasteners/ torque tool usage requirements.
  • Experience with Driveline, suspension, and AIR brake systems.
  • Can repair a car or truck without any assistance.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic, great attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect parts and finished products to ensure they meet the required quality standards.
  • Identify and report any defects and issues and follow established procedures for addressing and resolving quality concerns.
  • Ensure defects and repairs are logged properly in GoCanvas.
  • Provide feedback to teammates, Supervisor and Production Line management of repetitive defects.
  • Participate in root cause problem solving as requested by your supervisor.
  • Mentor other junior teammates on how to read and interpret truck build orders, assembly instructions, and technical diagrams to understand the assembly process and sequence of tasks.
  • Answer questions on the process and how to perform basic truck issues as needed.
  • Work efficiently to meet targets and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to create a safe working environment for oneself and team members.
  • Report any safety hazards or incidents to the Supervisor immediately.
  • Operate various hand tools, power tools, and machinery required for assembly tasks.
  • Report any issues with equipment timely to avoid breakdowns or accidents.
  • Collaborate and communicate with supervisors, team members, including other assembly line co-workers and technicians, to achieve quality goals and resolve any challenges that may arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Handle and organize materials and components used in the assembly process, ensuring their proper storage and efficient usage.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of process improvements and optimization opportunities to enhance overall quality of the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S principles, to facilitate a safe and efficient assembly process.
  • Help train other Technicians and Operations Assembly team members and share your experience to improve the skills of your teammates and improve your chances for career growth.
  • Mentor others on how to perform basic truck repairs as needed.
