About The Position

Passaic County Community College is seeking a Lead Mentor who will report to the Program Assistant Director for a grant program for Pre-College Programs serving middle school and high school students in Paterson Public Schools or Passaic Public Schools. Lead Mentors are initially required to make a commitment for one session: Summer 8 weeks (July–August); Fall 13 weeks (October–December); or Spring 13 weeks (February–May). This is a part-time, hourly position.

Requirements

  • Must be current college student in Junior year; (Preference with completion of associate degree).
  • Knowledge of computer programs and some social media platforms, for example, Word, Google, Zoom, etc.
  • Ability to communicate on a verbal as well written basis with students, staff, parents and others.
  • Ability to work in a team environment coordinating needed student services.
  • The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

  • Preference with completion of associate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in mentor training provided by grant program.
  • Serve as a role model for mentors and encourage college/career pursuits.
  • Assist in the development of skills necessary for protégés to succeed both personally and academically.
  • Assist assigned protégés in developing realistic career/academic goals and expectations.
  • Participate in the planning of enrichment activities and use level all to create complementary activities.
  • Document the experiences of students via social media. Posts on the following platforms weekly: Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program director/coordinator.
  • Attend Saturday program and field trips.
  • Create publications (flyer, website, social media, handbooks).
  • Provide regular updates and resources needed for mentors to management (i.e., debrief meetings, crisis management, team staff meetings, etc.).
  • Entering new student data, verifying student information, combining survey information.
  • Offering tutoring in Math and English, advising early College Cohort along with Early College Mentor, Preparing mentor workshops.
  • Offering feedback on mentor role and student engagement, Providing insight on student trends for programming.
  • Ensure mentors are prepared for Saturday program.
