About The Position

The Pre-Certified Medical Assistant position is assimilated throughout St. Charles Health System, encompassing practices in three Central Oregon counties and numerous specialties. This role collaborates with providers and non-clinical staff to ensure comprehensive and compassionate healthcare. The Pre-Certified Medical Assistant will assist the primary clinical team with patient flow for each respective provider for whom they work. This position does not manage any other caregivers. The role requires adherence to the organization's vision, mission, and values, supporting Lean principles of continuous improvement, and maintaining a safe environment. Professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are essential. The position involves delivering customer service and patient care in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) after completion of orientation (for Pre-Certified MA).
  • Must complete medical assistant certification within two (2) years of hire (for Pre-Certified MA).
  • Current MA Certification from ONE of the following: American Medical Technology Association (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA), OR licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN (for Certified MA).
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification (for Certified MA).
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites (for Certified MA).
  • Previous experience or exposure to the healthcare or medical field (for Pre-Certified MA). This may include college-level coursework in a health-related field, administrative roles in a healthcare setting, or clinical/patient-facing experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates basic medical knowledge, familiarity with healthcare environments, and medical terminology will be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures (for Certified MA).
  • Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems (for Certified MA).
  • Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards (for Certified MA).
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements (for Certified MA).
  • Those candidates with NHA certification that qualified due to work experience rather than graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program will be required to have one (1) year of experience in medical assisting (for Certified MA).
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare related classes (for Pre-Certified MA).
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (for Certified MA).
  • Uncertified Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Room (ER) Technician, Electrocardiogram (ECG) Technician, Pharmacy Technicians, and any other clinical certification (for Pre-Certified MA).
  • Current American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification (for Certified MA).
  • N/A (for Pre-Certified MA).
  • Two (2) years of medical assisting experience (for Certified MA).

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares them for the provider's assessment.
  • Records and maintains patients' medical data in their medical charts.
  • Assists the provider with answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions.
  • Maintains equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels.
  • Supports the organization's vision, mission, and values in all respects.
  • Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization’s corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
