About The Position

The Pre-Certification Coordinator is responsible for obtaining Prior Authorization for medications and infusions to ensure drug coverage through required interaction with third-party payers. This role also involves obtaining pre-certification for Ancillary Tests through interaction with third-party payers. The position acts as a liaison between internal and external customers, including patients, families, healthcare professionals, and administrative/clinical office staff. The coordinator will counsel patients and families on the pre-certification or prior-authorization process, answer questions, and provide regular updates on the status of authorizations. Miscellaneous duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification or combination of education and/or experience.
  • Medical Office Setting (2 Years)
  • No specific certification/professional license is required for this position.
  • A driver's license is not required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Contacts appropriate insurance companies for authorization for medications and infusions and ancillary testing.
  • Ensures all necessary authorizations have been received and documented appropriately based on department policy in Epic.
  • Acts as liaison between internal & external customers including patients and families, healthcare professionals, administrative & clinical office staff.
  • Counsel patients and families on the pre-certification or prior-authorization process.
  • Answers questions and provides regular updates on status of authorization.
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned.
