About The Position

The Pre-Certification Authorization Coordinator obtains pre-certification for inpatient admissions and pre-authorization for outpatient diagnostic tests, while providing administrative support. The role applies and interprets policies and procedures and uses independent judgment in a medical setting. Its purpose is to support Patient Access, the Medical Center, and HSF goals and denial-rate targets, minimizing revenue loss and maximizing payment for services. The coordinator maintains working knowledge of carrier contracts and changes, as well as departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least 3 years of relevant experience required.
No licensure required.
Ability to maintain working knowledge of carrier contracts and changes, and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to use PC and UVA software systems proficiently.
Effective communication, decision-making, and organizational skills.
Ability to apply and interpret policies and procedures and use independent judgment in a medical setting.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Analyze information needed to complete pre-certifications and authorizations with insurance carriers, service-area contacts, and workers’ compensation carriers.
Use PC and UVA software systems proficiently to enter pre-certification and pre-authorization information accurately and promptly into required systems.
Use effective communication, decision-making, and organizational skills to support efficient job performance and success.
Adhere to policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
