About The Position

This position will be a member of the College’s Shared Services Center, within the Pre-Award Team. This position, reporting to the Senior Grant Specialist, will be primarily responsible for administrative and budget support on grant proposal submissions. The position will work with faculty to create, collect, review, upload, and transmit documents necessary for routing proposal requests for new research funding. This includes working with various departments across campus, departments at collaborating universities outside of UMBC, external contractors, and program sponsors at federal, state and private agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business administration, accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, proposal development, or sponsored programs management.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200), state, and university policies related to sponsored research.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certification such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA), or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing and reviewing complex, multi-PI or multi-institution proposals, knowledge of NIH, NSF, DOE, DoD, and other major federal sponsors, demonstrated success in process improvement, training, or mentoring within research administration.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the proposal development and routing process in the college’s sponsored research unit within shared services. Tasks include: Budget Development, RFP review, PI interface, Kuali data input and routing after being reviewed by the sponsored research lead or Sr. Specialist of sponsored research, RT pre-award queue management.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support for faculty who are submitting proposals for grant funding. Liaison on behalf of faculty with UMBC departments, and individuals outside of UMBC necessary for a successful submission.
  • Ensure all proposal materials align with federal, state, and sponsor regulations, including Uniform Guidance and UMBC’s internal policies.
