About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant II in the Tech Ops Department is responsible for knowing all of the functions of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I, plus additional functions. This role involves meeting or exceeding productivity and quality standards, solving complex problems, and understanding the impact of specimen processing on testing departments and result quality. The position requires identifying and resolving issues with specimen types, test orders, missing information, and bar code labels. It also involves understanding the relationship between ordered tests and received specimens for load building and correcting departments. Accurate written documentation, adherence to policies, and research of test ordering information are essential. The role also includes sorting, racking, picking up, and delivering specimens, operating a centrifuge, and aliquoting. The Pre-Analytical Assistant II will also learn additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing for cross-functional support.

Requirements

  • Medical background required which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
  • Must have familiarity with personal computers, basic Windows-based software
  • Good typing skills
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in a laboratory environment or a production setting

Responsibilities

  • All responsibilities of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I and II
  • Meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards for Pre-Analytical Assistant I
  • Solves more complex problems on a routine basis
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of how Specimen Processing and Tech Ops impact testing departments and result quality
  • Identifies problems with specimen types vs test orders, missing information, improperly positioned bar code labels, etc. with regard to load building, aliquoting, and test add processing
  • Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimens received with load building to correct departments
  • Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame
  • Meets quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training
  • Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to ensure cross-functional support
  • Adheres to all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing the ability to research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services
  • Sorts, racks, picks up and delivers specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage, operates centrifuge, aliquots
